It is always more exciting doing things as a whānau. Whether to you that means your partner & kids or your whole extended family, learning a new skill together is so great for growth.

Learn With Your Whānau
8 x 1.5 hour sessions – Face to Face; or
8 x 1 hour sessions – Online
When you’re learning a new language, one of the biggest pieces of advice they say is to find someone else who is learning the same language and continue your learning outside of the classroom. What better way to do that than to learn together with your whānau?
We created NZSL 4 Whānau so that you can immerse everyone in your household and in your family unit with NZSL and grow our NZSL community faster! All our classes are fully immersive, which means that we communicate entirely in sign language during the class. It is never too late to start – and there’s no more comfortable way to begin than with the people closest to you! Whether you have a Deaf person in your whānau, or not, NZSL is a great tool and skill to learn and will help you to communicate with the Deaf community – and help them to communicate with you. Continue to use rotarota (sign language) at home – to ask your daughter to “pass the potatoes” at dinner or to ask your son to “turn the TV down”. To further your learning, make the most of our online resources, meet up with other whānau and people learning NZSL, and be sure to attend our annual NZSL4U camp!
Face to Face or Online
NZSL Level 1A
This is a beginner class – so even if you don’t know anything about Sign Language, this is a great place to start! In this class we go through Deaf culture and Deaf awareness and start teaching the basics – like “Hello” “Kia Ora” and “How are you” – plus many more!
NZSL Level 1B
After you have completed 1A, you move on to the next level – Level 1B. In this class, we learn more of your everyday language – such as emotions and feelings, counting, relationships, telling the time and more!
NZSL Level 1C
The next step in your NZSL journey is Level 1C where you will learn how to put your actions into basic sentences, and you’ll master the art of “small talk”. We also go through actions about community and work in this module.
