Description

Our NZSL courses aim to equip learners with crucial communication skills and cultural insights.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Confidently exchange personal information and share language learning experiences.

  • Describe and provide information about others to enhance social interactions.

  • Discuss extended family/whānau and explore family origins.

  • Talk about daily activities, food, and household items to enrich conversations.

  • Engage in discussions about home life and housework for practical communication.

  • Share personal experiences related to home mishaps for relatability.

  • Improve signing skills through NZSL grammatical structures.

  • Understand the cultural context of NZSL, promoting respectful communication.

Additionally, learners will gain the ability to:

  • Exchange greetings and make introductions while following class instructions.

  • Appreciate the role of facial expressions in NZSL and learn about Deaf culture.

  • Use eye gaze effectively and master numbers 1-10 and the fingerspelling alphabet.

  • Name common food and drink items, express likes and dislikes, and respond to requests.

  • Communicate effectively in classroom settings and navigate basic needs and emergencies.
